Secure and reliable data delivery methods are in hot demand. Especially considering the recent events involving Sony Pictures, having robust, secure data delivery services and data loss prevention solutions at your disposal is more important now more than ever. There are a variety of systems to choose from for you and your business but here are three commonly-used types of data delivery and encryption systems:

  1. FTP: File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, is a standard, prescribed network protocol used for data transfer. Digital files are transferred from various hosts via a server. What is distinct about FTP is that it uses different control settings and data connections between the client host and the server.
  2. SFTP: Secure File Transfer Protocol, or SFTP, is another network protocol that uses SSH, or Secure Shell Protocol, as the data stream between the client and server. Though it shares a similar name with FTP, SFTP file transfers are different in their scope and nature. SFTP is also known as SSH File Transfer Protocol.
  3. PGP: Pretty Good Privacy, or PGP, is a data encryption program used specifically for the security of emails and other data delivery methods. An encryption is a computer program that translates readable text, known as “plaintext,” into a cryptic, illegible language known as “ciphertext” in order to protect a digital file’s contents. Ciphertext can be translated back into plaintext using an “encryption key.” There are two basic types of encryption codes: symmetric encryption (or “secret key encryption”) and asymmetric encryption (or “public key encryption”).

There are, of course, many other kinds of data delivery methods but the important thing is to realize the diversity and wide-usage of safe, effective file transfers. Having easy, safe file transfer services for you and your business is something everyone — from a modest small business to a giant corporation like Sony — is more mindful of. Visit here for more.
